My ears started ringing the day Elvis Presley died (8/16/1977) and have not stopped since. I have had them "looked at" by several medical professionals, but after they've picked themselves up off the floor from laughing, they all have found no reason for this problem. Could there be a trauma related connection? Also, my mother had tinnitus and was successfully treated by an old school doctor who blew something into her ears and stopped the ringing permanently. This was about 50 years ago and all the players are long dead. I have learned to live with it, but I feel that, as I get older, my hearing is being affected.

I developed ringing in my ears back in 2002. It seemed to come on as I was attempting to memorize details from a College course for computer certification. I hadn't been to school in 30 years and at 58, the stress of going back was considerable. I completed the course but ever since that time my ears ring like a bell whenever I encounter a stressful situation and continue to buzz inscessantly at all other times, becoming most noticable when I'm in a quiet environment.

Tinnitus runs in our family. My mother was counting the days one of the children would come to her and state "There is ringing in my ear or ears and it is not going away" Mother had ringing. Grandmother had it. Well, guess who enjoys the ringing in the ears at 30 years of age it began. Wow.......begins softly and then becomes louder and louder. From my experience and going to medical specialists as well as high level holistic docs you get mixed info. Medical specialists just tell me hearing aids will be needed and noise does not go away. Tried those 10 years later. Sorry still heard the ringing after paying $10,000 for most expensive ones on the market. If you are lucky, it might not get louder. On the other hand, the holistic approach is different. One in particular was so amazing, he gave me a list of foods to stay away from which helped somewhat.
STAY AWAY FROM ASPARTAME - Tammy , who wrote in - thumbs up!!! STAY AWAY FROM SOFT DRINKS, BUBBLE WATERS, AND ASPIRIN eat a very healthy diet , we want to anyway to keep energy up. DO NOT GO INTO NOISE....PROTECT YOUR EARS AS WELL AS CHILDRENS. When you start having trouble with a body part, you start studying and studying...then you realize how lucky we are. Acupuncture is helpful!
Tinnitus is interesting and masks true hearing. It is becoming more and more popular. You kind of can experience it, if you go to a rock concert and the next day your hearing is really masked and you hear ringing. Many have that all the time. You do not realize it, but it can be frustrating to those who have it. You just have to be very strong and positive to not let it get to ya.
Eat natural foods, forget the process junk, drink fresh water and keep fit then you do not run into so many problems. Watch out for those IPODS too!

I have had tinnitus for years off and on. Additionally, I sing in a choir for a portion of the year. Following choir practice, or when I sing with my guitar, my tinnitus goes away at least for a few days. The more I sing, the longer it stays away. So that's my recommendation: SING!

This past summer I noticed that I was suddenly losing hearing in my right ear and also had the loud roaring and that clogged feeling (like when you go to a higher elevation). I went to an ear specialist and he tested my hearing and confirmed levels of loss and attributed it to my age. The noise, he said, was called tinnitus and he said - "the noise is coming from the brain...not the ear.??" and he can give me nothing to relieve the problem? I am not going back to him in six months as suggested by him to test the hearing again (which he suspects will be worse due to my age and the fact that it will get worse). I am sensitive (allergic?) to sulphur(shock), msg (migranes) and food additives(dizziness) like aspartame etc. and avoid them judiciously when I can (see truthinlabeling.org). Thank you for your comments as it confirms my suspicion that it was related to my sensitivities to the above. I will now pursue my problem with a knowledgeable nutrritionist and or a homeopathic practitioner. Hopefully my remarks will help someone else. Thanks,

Repeated trips to the dentist to remove all metal from my mouth has greatly reduced by tinnitus. Also I take two herbal supplement, and stay away from loud noise. Refrain from Q-tips to clean my ears, and keep the ears well covered in winter. I have been suffering from tinnitus for over 10 years and these remedies have seem to make an improvement.
