Carbon Tax and Trade Tariffs

Global Warming is So Much Hyped.  Do You Know There is NO Scientific Evidence to Prove it?

Many support the carbon tax and trade tariffs now being discussed in Congress as a way to stop carbon dioxide emissions and the supposed harm to the environment. Global warming is what it is called. However, there is no scientific proof that it exists. The editors of INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY (IBD; June 17) and many credible scientists have this opinion. Global warming is a simply an assumption, lacking any evidence, advanced by Gore and the scientists who get their support from groups that mistakenly back the concept. The earth and universe are billions of years old. What we are seeing is just a blip on the time line. In the ‘60s, the US Navy warned us of the return of another ice age overcoming us again because they found ocean temperatures going down. The only thing that happened was that it was great for fish: their numbers exploded because krill etc (their food) grew like mad.

The flaw that IBD cites is that the environmentalists all argued for mass transit as the best way to have transportation for the masses. They argued that removing cars, trucks, and planes would eliminate a great amount of pollution, carbon dioxide that is causing the warming. Well, the scientists found out just recently that that is not the case. As an aside we can confidently say that carbon dioxide is not a pollutant.

Engineers from University of California, Chester and Horvath, demolished the cherished view that public transportation will have a smaller carbon print that private cars, trucks and planes. Private automobiles have a smaller print than public modes of transport. How?

Well, of course when you measure tail pipe emissions of a car or SUV versus a train or bus, the carbon output is great. However, one should measure everything involved in transport to get a fair idea of carbon prints. These two engineers looked at the full life cycle of eleven modes of transportation and tailpipe emissions. They got a clear picture of things by examining emissions discharged in building the infrastructure and maintaining it over its lifetime, building the car, train or plane and what it takes to run them.

In brief, they found that the carbon footprint of rail was greater than that of cars and light trucks. When passenger numbers are considered, cars and light trucks are even more green that the rails. In addition, rail compares poorly when compared to cars in sulfur dioxide pollutant. A real toxin to people. Maybe we need to look at this a lot more. SUVs may not be dinosaurs after all.

This is what your government would have you believe, but if you read the article, then you get a bigger picture.

Coby Says:

Are you mad? Your article cites no scientific evidence whatsoever. The evidence for global warming is overwhelming.

Global warming is quite real, and most every respectable scientist believes it. The few remaining quacks who still deny it are paid by the coal mining industry.

John Pulawski Says:

The numbers of fish have exploded because of krill?

Trains have a larger carbon footprint than automobiles? How can this be when they are significantly more efficient than the most efficient trucks at carrying cargo?

Global warming is not the only problem related to the use of fossil fuels-even if there was global cooling, over a hundred thousand Americans die every year due to fossil fuel related disease-only cigarettes kill more people. In other words, fossil fuel killed more Americans on September 11th than the terrorists did!

We have the land in the nation to grow all the fuel that we need. it is time to stop fueling the nations that hate us with our money. It is time to grow the fuel required to keep our nation at the standard of living that we are accustomed to, but we should conserve energy when the opportunity avails itself, and we should harvest more wind and solar energy.

Julie Says:

You are just wrong. Fine choose not to believe in global warming if you don’t want to. But temperatures have been rising meaning more days with temperatures over 90 degrees, meaning a decrease in milk production in cows, a dying out of certain breeds of plants and oh yeah health problems from the heat for our children and even worse for our children’s children and so on. Global warming is happening-whether you choose to beleive it or not.

Lance Says:

So why is this sensible story listed under “Strange News Stories” Nothing strange here, just common sense.

Don Hazlett Says:

The foolishness of mass transit over the long haul costing less than cars and light trucks is obvious when one looks at mass transit moving on schedule, full or not, compared to cars and light trucks choosing to go full or not. My guess is that cars and light trucks are driven only when needed by people who pay for the fuel. Explain cost and need to people who run mass transit, especially especially that run by government.

Alfred Havlena Says:

Writers of article- It was a pleasure to find your story seriously questioning the fabricated ‘global warming’ theory. I have not kept track, but a tally would probably result in a 2500 to 1 ratio of pro GW opinions vs common sense statements presenting the opposite view. Mass communication devices are great in that they reach so many people, but if the information is wrong,(perhaps deliberately?), it is a disaster waiting to happen, which GW certainly is.
Thank you for providing a small amount of balance.
AH

Norm Rhett Says:

Even if rail transit is more polluting than SUVs, SUVs are clearly more polluting than sedans and, depending on where the power used in refining the gasoline comes from, even coal fired electricity for EVs can be less polluting than gas powered cars. Natural gas electricity generation and, even more so, renewable generation for EVs is clearly the best.
Getting back to your headline, science never absolutely proves anything, but the evidence for global warming is strong. The great majority of glaciers are melting. Arctic ice has recently been thinner than has ever been seen. Animals are hibernating less. The widely accepted conclusion is that global temperatures have risen and that there is no plausible cause other than the increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gases, which have the undeniable effect of trapping heat in the atmosphere.

Reputable scientists who expess doubts about anthropogenic climate change do so with the argument that the measured warming has other causes, but none of their alternatives actual denies greenhouse gas warming, only that other causes might be stronger. The proposals I have seen are water vapor, cyclic earth orbital changes, other, unspecified, natural changes of millenial duration, and cosmic ray reduction due to deflection by solar winds. These and, I believe, any others can be discounted. (This is already far too long, so I’ll leave you to respond if you doubt any of what I have asserted.)

Norm Rhett

Jerry Says:

You are a nut job wacko with a mind focused only on proving your delusional point. also you are a right wing conservative nut

Sue Says:

Let’s face it…evidence or no evidence…we are polluting our earth. A prime example…driving from a nice clear sky in northern New England, into New Jersey where the sky is yellow and not just the sun…the entire sky and not just on one day…every day.

Global warming is real…you, however, are not.

George Bush Says:

Environmental protection is a big lie. We should all be allowed to mine, burn, cut, and hunt whenever and wherever we want. God put the Earth here for us to consume, and it is our right to devour everything. Clean air and clean water are NOT IMPORTANT.

jim Says:

Global warming is actually just away to make a fast buck…

Ok so the reduce the carbon output…In doing so something else will pop up…Because life truly never dies it just transforms into something different in form..

So say we do reduce are carbon foot print.. Carbon is here for a reason..It helps balance things out in the univerisal cycle of things… Have they ever figured out what will happen if we reduce the carbon output on earth what it will do to earth itself balance of things..I think not….

These idiots in political offices say lets go green.. it will save us all.. The want to use ethanol and other resources..They says it’s the way to go.. All these things are manmade.. So they effect the environment is others ways that we truly don’t have a fraking idea of the outcome..It’s all a guessing game being performed by so called experts to make a fast buck…and con the average joe out of a dollar..

Tom Says:

A glacier in Argentina is growing in size. Huh????

Thee sun goes through cycles too which have a maajor effect on the warmth or cooling of the earth. Huh, also.?????

undrgrndgirl Says:

where is YOUR proof?? some citations and actual NAMES of the alleged “scientists” would go a long way to supporting YOUR assertions…furthermore, you want me to believe a BUSINESS JOURNAL editor on the environment???

whether or not global warming is real doesn’t matter – we ARE drowning in refuse and pollution…from pharmaceuticals in our drinking water, to oceanic dead zones, to pcbs in puget sound…we ARE killing ourselves and our planet, and if you can’t see that we have no hope.

William Says:

We are getting our science from politicians. Politicians are pushing the climate warming/change and some researchers need grant money. Show me some true science without the political slant. Or, just follow the money. bill

Big Daddy CT Says:

WOW. Well, how about you and Senator Imhoff from Oklahoma (Go Sooners) and some OIL, COAL Execs try a few things out this summer – 1) Measure the glacial retreat of Kilimanjaro, Glacier Nat’l Park, or just about anywhere your TWO CENTS will get you. 2) The next time a cholera outbreak occurs after a CAT 5 hurricane tears thru another region and goes un-named because we’re exceeded our nomenclature system for seasonal hurricanes, go volunteer there, in fact DRINK THE WATER. Okay, last one, head to the Arctic and start saving Polars Bears that drown out at Sea because the Ice Floes are melting at such a rapid rate. I hear they’re very docile when exhausted and near comatose, if they’re still hungry, well I don’t want to say…BECAUSE ALL OF THE SCIENTIFIC DATA about them must be wrong too… Hmmm, maybe maybe GW is addressed in the Bible . . .with ducks… U QUACK!

Well, you got your attention, you happy now?

killy Says:

Proof that “global warming” is all a bunch of hooey: Gore refuses to debate it.

Jayson Worthington Says:

The deniers are at it again. They denied the earth was round, they persecuted Gallileo for saying the earth revolves around the sun. In later years they opposed vaccination for children and flourination of water. Now when the leading world climatologists, supported by 95 percent of their peers and the scientific community, are warning of global warming and its hazards, the doubters attack their credibility. The prose, of the author of the lead article betrays the fact, that he is confused of the meaning of the terms and is not scientifically trained

Darod Says:

Coby you and the hyperactive fools that scream Global Warming are the ones that are mad. Every supposed article that proves global warming reports that temperatures have only risen a half degree, over the 40 to 100 years. Oh and Norm Rhett I have read articles that claim Antarctic ice is getting thicker. Only 500 to 600 scientists actually try to sell this global warming crap, and they arent even at the tops of the field, and they are the same ones who in the 1970’s tried to convince us that we are going into another ice age. And how come is it that the people who disbeleave global warming try to have rational conversations, yet the ones who believe global warming (except Norm) cant do anything but scream insults and call names like an undosciplines 12 year old.

Jan Says:

obviously someone who works in the coal industry wrote this lol

bob Says:

Proof global warming exists: the scientists that were in Bush’s administration were paid off by big oil industries to deny proof of global warming

don moore Says:

The earth is doing well, that the increase in temperature is one degree. The increase is due to earth’s change in rotational axis, something that occurred centuries ago. Star formations are a measure of earth’s slight rotation change, and changing ice caps support the event Humans cannot change this slight change in earths magnetic shift.

The errattic weather will continue as long as the earth veers away from normal pattern of rotation. Don Moore

buddy Says:

Oops, I just broke wind (farted). How much do I owe? My dog sniffed it, do I get a reduced fee?

Manifest Abundance Says:

Over 31,000 scientists..some that actually were involved with Gore’s scientific research say this is a lie. The only reason the Earth warms is because of the Sun..duh!!! There is no scientific Proof that we cause the problem. There is theory only!
And it has been proven that most of the carbon dioxide is coming from the oceans…and only 3% is from people. There is a video on youtube that will explain this all for you.

And since there is a slight rise in carbon dioxide..forests and crops are growing faster and stronger! What could be wrong with that?!!

The Earth goes through cooling and warming stages and has done so forever! We had a satellite up above Earth that has stated we are in a cooling stage since 2002!! So there is NO global warming effect right now!

If you believe otherwise…me thinks you have drunk the Kool Aid! The younger generation who have been publically schooled have been taught a bill of goods that are so false! You do not read or write at the level we did at your age. You do not know civics. And obviously you are deceived when it comes to science. But…if you WANT to pay taxes on a lie…Go right ahead. Your future is bleak! Socialism or Communism will keep you from becoming the best that you can be. I feel so sorry for your generation and the ones to come. You will never be able to feel the high from accomplishing your dreams…you will be living a drone existence! Enjoy! Don’t research and find the truth. But, It IS out there..but you have to dig for it.

Manifest Abundance Says:

If you want less carbon dioxide…stop devastating forests and plant some trees! SIMPLE AS THAT!

Plants live on our carbon dioxide…we live on their oxygen. Remember Science class in elementary school?

Tommy J Says:

I still can’t believe the number of you under thirty deadheads who believe in the ethanol scam. God, public education is destroying America.

Look kiddies, no matter what your NEA union Gore-text teachers say – Ethanol costs more to make (and always will). Making it releases four times as much in carbon emissions. It KILLS people because the rising cost of corn means less third world countries can afford to buy it.

As for the ridiculous view that second hand smoke kills people – I ask the question that any scientist would – name me ONE person who has a cause of death listed on a certificate that says “second-hand smoke”. No, not a disease that POSSIBLY could be linked to smoke, but point me to the person whom a doctor says died of second-hand smoke. If you can’t, then shut up about it.

tim mickel Says:

it is true that many scientists are paid by big oil coal and other interest groups but it is also true that scientist being given huge grants by governments will say about any thing to keep the money coming in. climate change is something that happens naturaly there are less polutants in the air tday then there were in the 1800s there was a time in london and other euopean cities when it actually rained greas for coal burning furnaces i can clearly remember in the 60s in detriot and places like teleodo pittsburg the list keeps going where the black smoke rose constantly we have come a long way and need to go further but lets not be stupid and make a bunch of rediculas laws at a time when recession is killing our nation

The hammer Says:

For anyone interested- The earth has been warming and cooling for millions of years. Scientists have proven past ice ages, the last one about ten thousand years ago, what happenned to warm us up then? Too many camp fires…There was a time when the Sahara was a lush jungle…Things change with us or without us…Right now leftist politics have creeped into respectability…They’ve stolen common sense and now everyone is so concerned about climate change, like humans had the power in the past..Please! Polution is a real problem, but for every molecule of pollution we take out of our society, China increases tenfold. You want to do something about polution, protest those Chinese slobs…What’s the matter? Too much effort involved for all you concerned types? Why is it that whenever it comes down to Americans solving Global Warming, it always involves us giving up freedom and lowering our standard of living? Is that the way to weaken America? The back door is for dishonest sneaks which is what the global warming crowd is made up of…That and chicken little types…The sky is falling, oh no and it’s dirty too!

Rick Says:

I am dark complected from the Mediterranean area. I had never been sunburned until I was in my 40s. Now, the sun penetrates my shirt and burns me. I haven’t changed. Ultra violet rays have increased. The wavelength is so short that they penetrate fabric. This is a result of the hole in the ozone. Stop listening to Rush Limbaugh and get a clue.

snowman Says:

SUVs are very efficient if you have a family of 5 plus any luggage. No smaller car will match the SUV in that case. I have 7 cars. From a large SUV for big outings to small cars for just getting around.

Everyone should have 7 cars, one for each purpose! Thats unless you are poor and have to choose one to do everything. There is nothing wrong with SUVs as they are far more efficient than a giant diesel buss with room for 50 people typically carrying just 5.

As to global warming, I am a scientist. I do not see any clear evidence of it anymore than I did for a new Ice age 40 years ago. As of now its just hype!

Tony Says:

global warming is a very serious issue. Think about it soon it will be to hot for humans to survive on Earth. So I propose for the purpose of saving the lives of billions of humans and the plants and animals to make it against the law to operate any kind of internal combustion engine imediately or the penalty will be death. Off with your head. Of course I mean after I get home from work. so Monday morning all air, rail and road traffic will come to a stop, this includes all farming and shipping which requires the burning of so called fossil fuels. I understand that some humans perhaps billions may starve to death as we revert to simpler times but hey, you have to break a few eggs to make an omlet right? this global warming farce is the greatest gag ever played on the human race. Ever wonder why education is poor these days? Its so we have a population of morons that will buy into any bull—- story the Marxists in government shove down their necks. Works well I have to hand it to them. Have a nice day.

Allen Says:

For carbon or other industrial pollutants to cause a green house effect they would have to travel at least ten miles up into the atmosphere and form a tightly knit barrier around the entire earth to prevent a mixture of higher altitude air from mixing with lower altitude air. Since carbon and most other industrial pollutants are heavier than our planetary air they can raise only a mile or so into the atmosphere before falling back to earth. One simply has to look into the sky to see this is true. If they, indeed, had risen to the necessary altitude, created and maintained a tight knit barrier, there would be physical evidence: A dark ring around the earth, which as anyone can see does not exist. However, global warming could still well exist, but not from a “green house” that is simply not there and from industrial pollutants that can’t get there because they are too heavy to remain airborne.

Matt Says:

It is a bunch of hot air. If Al Gore was so concerned about global warming, then how come his home uses more energy in 1 month than most homes use in 10 months ?

When I was in school, we were heading to another ice age, now they have done a complete 180 in less than 20 years. The oceans themselves create more green house gasses in 1 year than any amount humans can do in 10 years.
When it comes to the affect of humans on the earth’s climate, we are the tip of the white head of the pimple on a whales ass, if whales had a ass.

Armando Simon Says:

This is absurd. The headline states that there is NO scientific basis, then instead of presenting data which proves that there is no global warming, the articles plunges into politics. This is so typically stupid of conservatives and it is embarrassing to other conservatives. Jesus!

Tim Says:

Unless I understood incorrectly in science class, if you consider the earth as an enclosed greenhouse and if the temperature is going up,would that not cause increased humidity, increased cloud cover, and subsequently increased rainfall which if you have never noticed after a rainfall, decreases the temperature? Why is it that it is natural to have an ice age but “global warming” must be being caused by humans?

BELLCORD Says:

IF THE OIL COMPANIES PAID ME $7500 A MONTH TO MAKE UP HORSESHIT LIKE THIS GUY, I’D PUT IT OUT ON ANY SITE DUMB ENOUGH TO RUN WITH IT…

Chris Says:

So, The Glaciers in Glacier Natoinal Park will be all gone in 20 years. The rate of disappearance as calculated by the United States Geological Survey is accelerating, doubling in the past 20 years.

No global warming?

The Antarctic Ice Shelf is melting for shrinking for the first time in recorded history.

No Global Warming?

Please.

Now we can argue whether this is just nature at work or man is helping it along, but to deny global warming is happening is somewhat foolish, don’t you think?

Ron Says:

When you listen to the experts on global warming they all have one key word in their statements. “Theory”! However I have noted that those who take the time of looking into the past by looking at things like various layers of earth, which will show what conditions were like thousands of years ago have discovered that for the most part weather and conditions go in cycles. We have had more then one ice age and more then one period of warming. Granted, we do have a pollution problem. Mostly due to high populations in a small area. Look at LA. The greatest source of pollution is called congress.

snowman Says:

Funny thing, whatever happened to the last ice age? Global warming! Exactly when did this global warming start? It wasn’t in any modern humans lifetime.

Yes, there will probably be another ice age, and it will end in another cycle of global warming.

Our technology to maintain suitable environments for man, even in outer space, will overcome any global warming threat. And NO ONE is predicting that we will become toast!

As of this time there is NO model for weather that can predict weather over the next day or two, let alone over the next century. Our climate is very complicated with many feedback loops, most not understood. One thing is almost certain, mans contribution is very small.

Anyone take a class in thermal physics? I have and I am certain that no one is capable of being able to compute the effects on our climate by any natural or man made process. If you like differential equations your will love thermal physics. And if you are familar with differential equations you know that there is a lot of guesswork involved in just solving them, let alone setting them up.

Tim Says:

Whether there is or isn’t global warming going on, all the enviro-nuts seem to think we’re just going to switch right now to these alternative energies that are at the moment either not viable or far too expensive to implement for several years yet,so what do you suggest,we go back to riding donkeys? I might have read incorrectly, but I seem to recall the government claims that the warming is being caused by a build up of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, well does this mean that everything on earth that breathes air should either be taxed or stop breathing?I’m sure all of you educated people out there are aware that you breathe in air and breathe out carbon dioxide ,right? I learned that in science class too, Mr.Bellcord and I don’t work for an oil company, jus’a dumb ol’farmboy who listened in science class. Yes,people are polluting, no we’re not causing global warming, that is a natural cycle of the planet, remember when the planet was molten rock? No, we weren’t here.

MikeS Says:

What I find interesting is the people that are the most zealous AGAINST global warming and believe it is all HOOEY don’t even mention the glaciers retreating. The only argument I see on the dozen’s of websites I have visited is that the climate temperature is cyclical and they thought there was going to be an ice age in the 60s. If things are just taking their normal course then why are the glaciers retreating at an alarming rate? Is this part of the “cycle” as well? If it is I have not found any “anti Gore” people addressing it.
