This is bogus. Generic advice that every one has already heard. Ho-hum! Why not suggest we pump up our tires? Seriously you could tell people to lower their water pressure to 55psi or to 40-45 for super water saving. You could tell people about toilets that use only 1.28 gallons per flush instead of 1.6 gallons like standard new toilets use and the new designs flush good. On demand circulating pump systems. Most homes could use extra insulation in the attic. Even more do not have any insulation over unheated crawlspaces or unheated basements/garages. On the cheap use caulk or spray foam to seal gaps around penetrations. Or how about coming up with something really new.
