Easy, Green Tips to Save You Money
If your pockets are hurting these days don’t feel bad, were all in the same boat! With rising gas and energy prices added with the poor economy and job losses it seems everyone is looking for ways to save. Another topic on everyone’s mind is the environment. We all know that the Earth cannot keep up with our energy use and waste production. Here are five great “green” ideas to save money and the environment!
The easiest way to save is something some of us don’t like to do – walk. Or ride a bike, take the bus or carpool. Finding different ways to get around is one of the easiest ways to save money. The more you can cut down on driving the less money you are going to spend on gas. Also, the less gas you use the less you hurt the environment!
Another free way to save money is VERY simple. Keep your thermostat at an even temperature. It is recommended that during winter you keep your thermostat at 68 F in the day and 55 F at night. In summer keep your thermostat at 78 F. If a room gets too hot or too cold then your heating/cooling system will have to work extra hard to get it back to a comfortable temperature. This will save on your heating/cooling energy use- ultimately cutting saving you money.
There are two things you can do regarding your water usage to lower your energy bill and save your money. The first thing is to wrap your water heater. Leaving your water heater exposed allows for cooler air to “steal” heat from the water inside of the tank. Wrapping your water heater will keep the temperature even so that the heater doesn’t have to reheat the water, saving you money! Also, you can get a low flow shower head. This is a change you will not even notice in your daily life, but it can make a big difference on your bills. They are made very well now and can produce quite a strong stream. Cutting down your energy spending will save you LOTS of money!
The last thing I will suggest to save you money is to replace your regular light bulbs with energy efficient florescent bulbs. They last much longer than regular bulbs and use less energy. They produce a lovely white light that brightens the room!
Although it is not going to make you rich, scaling down on your energy use really can save you a lot of money! Most of us don’t realize how much energy we waste, or how much money we could be saving. Try these simple tips to save money and help to conserve our natural resources!

This is bogus. Generic advice that every one has already heard. Ho-hum! Why not suggest we pump up our tires? Seriously you could tell people to lower their water pressure to 55psi or to 40-45 for super water saving. You could tell people about toilets that use only 1.28 gallons per flush instead of 1.6 gallons like standard new toilets use and the new designs flush good. On demand circulating pump systems. Most homes could use extra insulation in the attic. Even more do not have any insulation over unheated crawlspaces or unheated basements/garages. On the cheap use caulk or spray foam to seal gaps around penetrations. Or how about coming up with something really new.
