Danger Signs of Pregnancy and Childbirth

What Signs Indicate that Pregnancy and Childbirth has Become Dangerous?

In most women, having discomforts is part of the normal process of pregnancy and childbirth. But, the problem rises in telling which signs and symptoms are normal and which are not. Having these signs and symptoms might prove that something is wrong with you and your unborn child prompting you to seek medical care immediately.

  1. Cramping or bleeding within the first 2 months of pregnancy. This can be a major sign of miscarriage wherein the danger lies on the mother especially for the unborn child as it poses a threat on losing the child.
  2. Pain at the lower abdomen during the first 2 months of pregnancy. This could be a sign that you have an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy happens when the ovum or fertilized egg cell embeds itself outside the uterus, example, the fallopian tube, and after weeks, the ovum survives and grows into a zygote towards its fetus form causing pain in the area as it expands in the fallopian tube. This process tears down the tube and cause bleeding. Bleeding in the area would then cause the mother to be weak and dizzy due to the decrease of blood pressure and loss of blood.
  3. Other forms of bleeding can also be signs of underlying problems. Vaginal bleeding and tenderness when the abdomen is pressed can be a sign of abruption placenta. This happens when the placenta detaches itself from the uterine wall of the mother before the delivery can occur. This can become a serious threat to both the mother and the child since the placenta delivers both oxygen and nutrients to the child. Hemorrhage poses a threat to the mother as the placenta is highly vascular.
  4. Painless bleeding over the last months of pregnancy can be signs of placenta previa. Placenta previa occurs when the placenta slips over to the opening to the vaginal canal or onto the cervix instead of the normal area of attachment which is the uterine wall. This poses a threat to the child as it will entangle itself onto the child suffocating it in the process. Heavy bleeding should be a sign to watch out for during the last months of pregnancy.
  5. Normally, a baby would move inside about 3 to 5 times per hour. If a baby moves below than the average time it should be, then, the baby is in distress. This is called fetal distress. The baby could either have problems with breathing or supply of oxygen and should be checked up immediately before the problem worsens.

Having these problems can be very serious to the mother and the child and should be notified to the physician immediately and should be hospitalized. Learning these signs and symptoms should be appreciated as these common signs can be mistaken as the normal flow of pregnancy and childbirth. Telling which is normal and which is not is the key to saving both the mother and the child.

Actually this information is not entirely correct and some of it is downright dangerous. If you have any symptoms that are abnormal, contact YOUR healthcare provider and do not rely on this type of information as IT could be hazardous to your pregnancy.

Debra Says:

I miscarried at 3 months. The warning to be concerned about bleeding in the first two months due to a chance of miscarriage is inaccurate. Miscarriage can happen up to and after 3 months. Women should call their doctor anytime bleeding occurs during the pregnancy.

Laura Says:

I find it very hard to take any advice seriously from a story written so poorly. It was either translated from another language or the writer is as ignorant as the advice given. Some of this advice is not scientifically sound and I would urge young pregnant moms-to-be NOT to rely upon this information. If you feel something is not right, go to YOUR doctor.
