I have sleep apnea, and I use a CPAP machine. It has literally been saving my life! I was so bad that my immune system was non-existant, and my muscles in my body constantly cramped. I was sick all the time. I have thought about the surgery, but I remember what it was like to have my tonsils out at 15, and it was bad then! I am not sure I want to go through something like that, although, at the same time, I HATE being tied to a machine! I use it every time I sleep, anytime I am laying down. I have to! I don't want my body getting back to the place it was just 7 months ago. Use your CPAP no matter how annoying it is...you will get used to it eventually!

I work in sleep medicine. I have seen so many people who have had the UPPP done. This procedure works very rarely and even if it works, the resulting scar tissue can cause apnea as well. Although it may take some a long time to get used to/comfortable with CPAP, it is the most effective least invasive treatment for sleep apnea.

I had UVPP surgery, I'm male, 62 and very much on the obese side (weigh 230 lbs and 5'7"). I can't tolerate the mask (any kind) I think it may be claustrophobia. Tried the oral implant (snore somethinng) and I thought it was OK, but I keep disassembling at night. The final step I believe it may psychiatriscs or hypnotysm...
For what is worth. Good luck to you all. I hear so much about this, that I really wonder: have you ever heard of somebody dying in their sleep because of sleep aepnea (unless they were driving and fell asleep at the wheel).

This doesn't work so well with old farts. I had everything you mentioned plus drilling a hole in my jaw and pulling my tongue muscle through it for a tie-off. Cpap becomes useful when one becomes used to it, which can take a LONG TIME.

I have had my uvula removed (lasered/burned away over 5 visits which was sooo painful)..I've had 3 sleep studies - I am a 12. I have lost weight (I'm 57...now all this was
done in my 40's). I finally stopped using the machine as it
was driving me crazy at night...I got to the point my sleep
was worse with it). I am 5 feet tall and weight about l35.
I don't know if Medicare will help cover this surgery...what
I want to know is this something that might help me?
