Regular Periods, Is it Right Way to be Healthy for Women?

For many years, women and probably even doctors believed that should a woman not have a menstrual cycle that it was unhealthy, possibly even harmful to a woman’s body. The idea that the menstrual cycle was some sort of cleansing of the woman’s body has now become, well, bunk. The only thing they have discovered that the menstrual cycle is for, is to let you know that, guess what? You’re not pregnant.

For those women who believe in using oral contraceptives will then be very happy to know that by using them, they don’t have to worry about missing a period and its being harmful to them.

The idea of controlling when you have a period or whether to have one or not may sound foreign to a lot of people, but; for those who perhaps have dreadful periods, ones that may even cause them to miss work due to the fact that either their flow is just to hard to control, they’ve got terrible headaches, muscle aches, cramping, so much so that they can’t function, will find this news perfect for them and their condition.

Doctors for some time now have realized that the pill has been able to regulate a woman’s period and help ease any of the issues that come with that period. They also realize that the little bit of bleeding that comes after they stop the pill has no medical benefits either. Doctors now are beginning to help women understand that they can, without any medical consequences, indeed miss periods for very long periods of time.

This then alleviates all the pain, illness, irritability, embarrassment and inconvenience that a woman’s menstrual cycle often brings. This should also put to ease the minds of those who thought that it was unhealthy to not have periods.

Studies have shown that using for example the pill for 84 straight days and then 7 days of placebo was not only the same as using it for the 28 day cycle but showed no ill affects and it also decreased what is called withdrawal bleeding in women.

Even more studies over the past few years on newer oral contraceptives have shown that the new drugs can actually cease the period for up to two years and without any major side affects. The only noticeable side affects that were indicated would be the exact same ones that one would see with ordinary oral contraceptives.

So, there is no medical evidence that proves that a woman must have a period in order to remain healthy. There is no evidence that a woman must experience the so called withdrawal bleeding either. There also is no evidence that says by eliminating the monthly period, may cause any health issues. So, overall it is a safe procedure and for those who really struggle with their menstrual cycles, this could be a safe way to relieve them of the pain and frustration that comes with their monthly cycle.

So, basically you’re promoting the pill? Because….let’s see, a pharmaceutical company told you or backed you in this story? Wouldn’t be connected to YAZ or something like that would it? Amazing. Don’t get me wrong, the idea of not bleeding is great for any woman. I just wonder how many of these fine experts on a woman’s menstrual cycle are men with no wombs? And how many of them are backed by big pharma?

Angel Says:

The patch was a disaster and that ring thing sounds like it could be another one in the making–potentially worse given the fact that it is localized and internal. Birth control pills have always come with potential side effects so I wouldn’t take it lightly. They say “…up to two years..” but how long did they actually track their test subjects? Although they used the 84 day cycle oral contraceptives for their studies for two years, what was the health condition of these women three or even five years after the study concluded?

Sharon Says:

Studies have also shown that taking those pills that give you only a few periods a year are worthless. That the number of days a woman spots on those, plus the number of regular periods, is equal to the number of days she would have had a normal period to begin with.

Judith Says:

These “Men” talk about how safe it is NOT to have a regular cycle and that the pills could be used for at least two years of not having a [eriod. but have any of these test women become pregnant when they stopped the pill or have they tried to become pregnant? this is the question that comes to my mind as an old women. sure it would be a blessing not to haveto put up with the bleeding , cramps, headaches etc but I have known people in the past that were on birth control pills, after their first child, and then could never get pregnant again because their periods never came back.. this might be a big concern to young women..

John Says:

This argument is stupid. Why would anyone be against regular periods? If you don’t have regular periods, you sentences will be too long.

Sarah Says:

I’m a L&D nurse, I’ve been doing this for ~12 years. There is no medical benefit to having a period. When the “pill” was first invented, they engineered it so that women would take a week off every 4 weeks because the doctors thought women would WANT to have a period every month – little did they know! Monthly bleeding can cause anemia, and can aggravate certain conditions such as ovarian cysts and endometriosis. I take a low dose pill, I have never smoked, am not overweight and don’t have high blood pressure.
Many years ago, women didn’t start their periods until they were older, they were always either pregnant or nursing (so they didn’t have as many periods), and they went thru menopause earlier. Young girls now start earlier, don’t have as many children and menopause comes later. God never meant for women to have thousands of periods during their lifetime!
Talk to your doctor about this option. If you are healthy, it’s great to not have to put up with having periods when you are not planning on having any more children without having a hysterectomy.
