Approval Rating on Obama’s Health Care Already Falling – Do you think Town Hall Debate will Help him regain the Popularity?

Fresh off his summit trip to meet with the leaders of Mexico and Canada, President Barack Obama is bracing for what could be a very lively town hall meeting in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on Tuesday night.

On Monday, while attending his first official North American summit Obama met with Mexican President Felipe Calderon and Canadian Prime Minster Stephen Harper to discuss issues facing all three nations, including the economy, the Mexican drug wars and the possible re-emergence of swine flu.

But during the three hours the three heads of state spent with the press Obama was still bombarded with questions about the future of his health reforms.

Concerns and controversy about Obama’s health reform plans are growing all over the country; at town hall meetings, online and on radio chat shows. Obama’s popularity rating has fallen and he is engaged in the first real fight of his Presidential career, a fact that comes as no surprise to many political pundits.

Republicans say that the disturbances that have hit town hall meetings on the issue all over the country are the result of the publics overall dissatisfaction with the President’s reforms. Some Democrats however claim that such events are being orchestrated by Republican politicians to disrupt proper discussions from taking place. Nancy Pelosi wrote on Monday that such disruptions were “un-American.”

For his part Obama has avoided those kinds of accusations and has tried to keep his public remarks controlled and conciliatory. “We are having a vigorous debate in the United States, and I think that’s a healthy thing,” he said, repeating that thought three times. But, he said, ” the dynamic will change once the recess ends and the all the lawmakers and the debate return to Washington.”

“I suspect that once we get into the fall and people look at the actual legislation that’s being proposed, that more sensible and reasoned arguments will emerge. And we’re going to get this passed,” he said.

The audience he faces on Tuesday evening will be primarily made up of people who already have health insurance through their employers. He is expected to address concerns that his plans would adversely effect those who already have insurance in place.

Thus far the town hall meetings that President Obama has participated in have been relatively civil and supportive affairs, but he and his aides are preparing for the fact that this time it may not be such smooth sailing.

LARAINE SULLIVAN Says:

THIS HEALTH CARE BILL IS GARBAGE. THE AMERICAN PEOPLE SHOULD FIGHT IT TOOTH AND NAIL. I WORK IN HEALTH CARE AND WE HAVE PEOPLE COMING FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD TOG ET CARE BECAUSE THEY HAVE UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE AND THE WAIT IS TOO LONG TO GET WHAT THEY NEED. WE HAVE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS COMING IN GETTING OPEN HEART SURGERY FOR FREE, SPENDING DAYS & DAYS IN SICU OR OHR BEING SELF PAY, KNOWING THE HOSPITAL WILL NEVER SEE A DIME. HEALTH CARE REFORM SHOULD COME IN THE FORM OF RAISING CAPS ON MEDICAID PER STATE, DROPPING ALL SPECIAL MEDICAL COVERAGE THAT CONGRESS GETS FOR FREE AND MAKE THEM PAY FOR THEIR OWN. STOP RETIREMENT BENEFITS FOR ALL OF CONGRESS AND LET THEM HAVE TO WORK AT A JOB FOR 20 TO 30 YEARS LIKE THE AVERAGE AMERICAN DOES BEFORE THEY GET RETIREMENT. STOP BUYING PRIVATE PLANES FOR NACEY PELOSI AND MAKE HER TRAVEL LIKE EVERYONE ELSE AND PAY HER OWN WAY. IT SEEMS TO ME LIKE THE BIG WIGS ARE GETTING ALL THE HIGH DOLLAR STUFF FOR FREE AND WE GET THE CRAP. THEY CAN SET UP THERE AND SAY DO THIS OR DO THAT BECAUSE THEY KNOW IT WILL NEVER AFFECT THEM. I SAY IT IS TIME TO PUT A STOP TO THE FREEBIES THAT CONGRESS ENJOYS AND HAND IT DOWN TO THE LITTLE MAN. WHY DO WE NEED SO MANY CONGRESSMEN AND WOMEN WITH THEIR DOZENS OF STAFF ANYWAY, WHY CAN’T WE CUT BACK ON THEM SINCE THEIR SO HOT & HEAVY TO CUT EVERYTHING OUT FOR US. tHEY EVEN WANT TO GIVE OUR HARD-EARNED TAX DOLLARS TO ILLEGALS AS WELL AS ALL OUR JOBS.

budo Says:

From what I read and understand regarding this proposed legislation, there is no possible way I would support it.

While I think that the overall intention is well meant, there appear to be well too much control and a great deal of highly questionable facets included in it.

There is a growing sentiment that government controlling is getting into areas they do not belong and in some cases are extremely questionable as regards the Constitution.

I believe that Obama’s self important agenda begin to be reigned back immediately. I am also beginning to believe that in 2010 that the populance begin considering evening the playing field as far as Congress is concerned.

This type of questionable forced legislation is truly beginning to deeply concern me and it should concern America.

MARION Says:

THE DEMORATS WANT TO KILL OFF THE OLD PEOPLES SO THEY CAN GET THERE SS. BUY KILLING THEM OFF WITH THESE DEATH DRS.

John Says:

These “town hall” meetings are revealing that this administration has simply brought Chicago thug politics to the national scene. It’s not playing in the real America. I encourage opposition, by whatever means necessary, to the Democrats and their purple-shirted union gorillas.

geomcd Says:

No, I don’t think Obama ever was as popular as the numbers showed. He was a ‘fad’ much like the hula hoop. He has no substance, is an arrogant person, has insulted us to other nations, shows no patriotism, and has us into such deep debt, we may never recover. He has not brought about the change he campaigned for, but has surrounded himself with unsavory characters. Health care is really the last straw, not the underlying problem with this man.

James Says:

Do I think townhall debate will regain BO’s popularity. NO. This counrty needs a surplus in the budget not huge deficits. Look on any of DR Ron Paul’s websites. Let Dr Ron Paul have a say in how detrimental big spending is. Big governmental spending… big inflation. BO is predicting the government debt to be about equal with what Bush had when he left office. Then it gets worse in subsequent years. In 2012 when the budget according to the Washington post is about equal to what Bush had when he left office. Why can’t BO get a surplus at that point. Even he admits the deficit will stay the same then get worse. This will cause inflation and a further eroding of the dollar. Look at Dr Ron Paul’s web site he knows much more about the economy than Bush or BO.

LJH Says:

It’s becoming more and more evident that if Obama’s mouth is moving one of his stories is changing. I wish he would stick with the promise of his Jan. 20 speech…transparency and what is best for the American people. It might be worth a try.

Elsbeth Knuth Says:

I think you are missing a vital point……. The people that are allowed to attend Obama’s sessions are pre-screened. The once that are allowed to speak have their tickets marked and are told to dress a certain way. That is not an accurate view of the general public. I call it ego stroking! If his plan was so great why are Obama and his family not the first in line to sign up for it? Where are Biden, Pelosi and Clinton in that line. Shouldn’t the White House Staff just be jumping up and down about this great plan? It would be great if you could revise your posting!

DDR Says:

Of course Obama’s town hall meetings have been civil. His meeting was fixed, prepared questions and the folks and children were plants. He doesn’t seem to be able to meet with the real American public. If he cannot face us, how in the world can he face our enemy that threaten us. I have no faith or trust in this president.

Mary Danos Says:

Leave medicare (as bad as it is) alone and leave social security alone and include a bill that these two cannot be touched in future when this new reform goes belly-up then we will better accept it.

George Says:

Obama has lost credibility, too many lies/flip flops, the only ones supporting him now, besides his cartel, are the parasite kool aid drinkers. If you add the “undecided” to the more than 50 million who didn’t vote for him, HE IS OUT ! ! !

david brown Says:

The death panel fits well for the Democrats to raise money by raising the death (estate) tax, thus being able to confiscate and redistribute money to illegals, welfare, and others, without taxing them! No complaints from the dead, newly dead and poor.

What a shameful scheme!

terry covert Says:

As far as i am concerned we are a nation without a president.Obama is a disgrace to this country. I think he has a hidden agenda and it is not for the good of america.I do believe that he is anti Israel and has muslim interest. Can you say anti christ?
